Concert is delighted to announce the successful completion of the John Lewis flagship store in Leeds.

Concert is delighted to announce the successful completion of the John Lewis flagship store in Leeds which opened on the 20th October. This is the seventh store Concert has completed for John Lewis.

Representing a £37m investment in Leeds, the 255,000 sq ft regional flagship shop has created 550 jobs locally and is one of the largest John Lewis stores outside of London. The retailer is the anchor tenant of the new Victoria development in the city centre, with a gross internal area of 255,000 sq ft delivering an interior design selling space of 175,000 sq ft over five floors.

The scheme offers a high standard fit out including a beauty spa, personal stylists, coffee experience, home designs team, customisable furniture, John Lewis’s full fashion and travel experts Kuoni amongst others.

The façade has two distinct elements:

  • Plinths, which frame the building and provide depth
  • Architectural detailing on the upper floors

An iconic Place to Eat restaurant is situated on the top floor with views over Eastgate.

The five trading floor department store frames the scheme and is a major entrance to Leed’s retail core from the eastern side. It continues the design principles established by Sir Reginald Blomfield in the 1920’s by creating a new ‘bookend’ building for the scheme.

Excellent communication and the strong relationships built by the team throughout the project has resulted in a highly collaborative approach to design, cost and deliver the scheme.

One of Concert’s solid relationships is with Brookerflynn architects who they have consulted with for over five years; Brookerflynn architects were part of the John Lewis design and consultancy team delivering dynamic first class retail environments. Mace was the main contractor on the project.

Andy Foy, Brookerflynn Director says:

“Working closely with Concert, offered comprehensive turnkey cost management solutions through all the RIBA Plan of Work stages; a key component in the cost efficient delivery of the latest John Lewis innovative branch.”

David Goult, John Lewis New Space Development Programme Manager says:

“Concert provided proactive commercial advice throughout the process, which has helped facilitate the successful delivery of this flagship project.”
